I took a graduate course at Syracuse University in May 2012. In six weeks, I created fifty paintings! I love the briskness of the brushstrokes, the smell of the wax and the intensity of the color! It’s all about texture too and the fact that I can easily incorporate mixed media items into the work. My favorite thing was adding the Monopoly money as collage because I’m really into using game pieces in my work. Playing cards, dice, and other gaming elements evoke personal connections for the viewer while still maintaining my own emotional link, which makes the work have a more universal quality.
These heart paintings are mounted on chalkboard painted canvas lined with dominoes. They are available for $100 each.

In 2008, I created a series of paintings I called Talisman. I used 18″ x 24″ canvases, designing them to have a chalkboard space and a square surface for oil and collage. There are twenty-four pieces in this collection – six with black chalkboard paint on top, six with black chalkboard paint on the bottom, six with green chalk board paint on top and six with green chalkboard paint on the bottom. Once I mapped out that construction, I gave each painting a border as well. I used a ruler and other devices to measure out the compositions adding text in chalk that would eventually erase.
Art can be fleeting just as emotion is a kind of journey with turns and changes along the way. Everything changes.
These paintings are for sale for $200 each. They are unframed.
Karen Tashkovski, Shield, 18″ x 24″, 2008, mixed media, $200
I used watercolors and colored pencil on Arches watercolor block paper. The paintings are for sale (unframed). 7″ x 10″ – $50 each; 9″ x 12″ – $75 each.
I created these paper collage pieces one winter when I couldn’t paint due to my small space living arrangement. I was able to work on them while sitting on the sofa in my living room. I love them because they incorporate a number of devices I’ve used in my oil paintings – sea shells, playing cards, skeleton keys and coins – as well as utilizing my fashion design background with the sewing craft.
They are cats, although you could argue they look like dogs, too, and that’s fine. I used Strathmore paper and metallic embroidery thread.
I’m selling them for $75 each (unframed).
