So Many Quilts

BEST OF SHOW, Fuzzy Mall, Dundas, Canada, “Emma and Clarke 2 composition 1” 2023, $4,800

Full disclosure – I was hiding those turkey rocks in Emerson Park in Auburn, New York the other day and there was no bathroom there.  I was all – maybe I can drive over to the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center and use the restroom there?

I parked the car across the street and almost peed my pants because I thought it wasn’t open.  There is scaffolding everywhere.  The gallery is undergoing a huge renovation.  Luckily, it was open.

And luckier still, I have a membership card.  So after that mini drama, I was treated to this technicolor array of internationally produced quilts.  The Quilts=Art=Quilts 2024 exhibition is on display and will be up through January 5, 2025.

Deborah Boschert, Lewisville, TX, Percolating”, 2024, $2,250

It is spectacularly colorful.  These large scale function-to-decorative objects brilliantly fill the walls and I must say these photographs do not do this show justice.  They are stunning in person or as my Mom always says, they are “Wow-ie!!!” !!!

The Santy Abstracts

Penny Santy had a pop up show at The Atrium, a downtown Syracuse venue that is currently sponsored by CNY Arts.  They have several more events planned until the end of the year (2024).  Next year the building will be renovated into an apartment complex.

This is the first time Penny has exhibited all of her abstract paintings together – works that were three years in the making.  She is influenced by Diebenkorn among other Abstract Expressionists, as well as music.

She sold many paintings during this weekend pop up.  If you want more information or wish to purchase a painting, find her at www.pennysanty.com.

Chocolate Pizza Magic

Can life get any better???  Patri and I found the Chocolate Pizza Company.  It is located at 3774 Lee Mulroy Road, Marcellus, NY 13108.

These are the people who invented the idea of a chocolate pizza.  It took the internet by storm a few years ago.

The aroma of chocolate is immediate upon entering the shop.  It is a bit like a Wonka movie experience, like you are in an alternative universe where dreams come true in instantaneous fashion.

My DCT scenario: eating dark chocolate covered potato chips (for only $9.95).

Anything and everything here would make great holiday gifts – the perfect dessert to bring to Thanksgiving dinner, the perfect Christamas gift to send to out-of-state friends and family.  And in my case, the perfect snack to eat in lieu of lunch and dinner.

Thank you, Patri, for introducing me to this fabulous shop!

Operating Hours

Monday – Friday: 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Saturday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Sunday: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Delphi Falls

Delphi Falls County Park is undergoing massive renovations.  They’ve finished stairs to climb the path to the top of the falls.  It is magnificent and peaceful, with that gorgeous undercurrent of the waterfalls murmuring softly.

This used to be someone’s backyard.  Private property.  How amazing that must have been!  Now it is a Madison County Park.  They are still working on the lower part of the park where the house used to be, planning a convention center, as well as a trail up the side of the falls – this area was not available to us.  Everything will be ready for Spring 2025.

Currently, the trail up to the falls where the stairs are is open and that is where you will find a dozen bear rocks if you choose to search.  Happy trails!

Special thanks to Patri and Katherine for joining me on this adventure.  Not sure how many more fifty degree weather days we have left in November in Syracuse, New York – we really have been blessed with this mild Autumn.  A lot more, please!  <3

Beary Barry

The trees around the trail at Barry Park are ideal for hiding rocks!  Technically this hiking trail is adjacent to the park on Meadowbrook Drive in Syracuse, New York.  It is called the Onondaga County Meadowbrook Detention Basin.

And Bear rocks are the perfect fit for this place.  Have a Beary/Barry Christmas!  Yeah, I know it is early for that, but I have fond memories of skating on this pond in the 1970s at Christmas time.

Thank you, to anyone and everyone who found these and any of the other rocks I have hidden on the trails and in the parks.  It is fun for me too!  I appreciate you and I am happy that you are enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, and taking the time to exercise, (and of course, to adopt an art rock)!

Baltimore Woods Nature Center

Baltimore Woods Nature Center is a heavenly park of hiking trails located at 4007 Bishop Hill Road, Marcellus, New York 13108.

We’ve been having fifty degree weather – sunshine and blue skies – the perfect weather to hike these trails.  This is an excellent workout.  The woods encompass a series of drumlins with paths going up, down, and all around in a circle maze with bridges and stairs, and creeks and lots of trees including chestnut trees!!!  So beautiful.  If you’ve never been there, make a plan to experience this asap.

I left a dozen angel rocks around the site to enhance the blissful feeling of this peaceful serenity.  The joy of nature is everything.

Thank you, Patri, for sharing this adventure with me.  I appreciate you!!! <3
