Mohawk Valley Angel

The show is over but I wanted to document it.  Women. Art. Voices. took place for three weeks (March 6 – March 27, 2026) at Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts.

Camaraderie, from my angel series, had a prominent place in the exhibition.  I loved the way it looked.

Penny came by today to collect my painting, CAMARADERIE.  She’s going to deliver it for me.  The new art exhibition at Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts, Women. Art. Voices., begins next week with a reception on March 6th, 2026 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.  The show runs through March 28th.

On Friday, I dropped off my butterfly paintings for the exhibition at Art Haus Syracuse.  The show starts on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, which is also the date of the art reception – February 28, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM.  That show ends on April 4th.

So, I have two art shows in March.  I will have a solo show at East Syracuse Free Library during May and June 2026.  I’ll be displaying my new encaustic trees series at that show.

Today I started working on another set of encaustic heart paintings.  I created a new heart stencil.  They are 5″ x 7″ and I am planning to mount them onto 8″ x 10″ chalkboard.

What you are seeing here – not done!  No – this is just first passes of color plus the colorful rice papers and origami papers.

What I’m loving right now is how they are both familiar and fresh/new.  I have enough colors to fill five pancake griddles.  When I first started with encaustics, I only had one griddle!  The devices I add to my paintings has also expanded so this series is different, challenging and so fun!  I love making them and I love love. <3

Framing Angels

Karen Tashkovski, “FUTURA”, 2017, 11” x 14”, encaustic & collage

I have eighteen of twenty-four angel paintings left.  Made in 2017 of encaustic & collage mounted on chalkboard, the series is called “Futura”.

I framed them and reevaluated some of the collage items because they were weighty.

I am in love with their new and improved look.  Hoping to get them into another gallery.  I showed them at the defunct Eye Studio in 2017 and since then  they’ve been in storage.  Stay tuned! <3

God Speed & God Bless

Although these sculptures in the Robineau Memorial Gallery (at the Everson Museum of Art, 401 Harrison Street, Syracuse, New York 13202) have the ability to move and create sound, there is a big sign at the entrance that tells us to not touch them because eventually, a docent/museum person will demonstrate them.  This did not happen on Sunday when there was one person at the desk, one person wanting to wax juxtapostion-laden sentences about the supposedly social justice paintings in the basement and another who stood adjacent to the skateboarding tragedy that has infiltrated three upstairs galleries in addition to glorifying its trespass of the outdoor courtyard.  No security guards and nobody in the viewing room of the text driven CNY initiative artist.

Still, I was drawn to the magnificence of the woodwork and spiritual infusion of it that constitutes D. Lee DuSell’s sculptures.  He died last year – three of these pieces had previously been displayed here in 1980.  They are part of a series he’d initiated in the 1970s when a spiritual calling allowed divine inspiration.  Christian symbolism and church iconography coalesced as part of the landscape of his artwork.  There are angels and the sounds of pipe organs, the idea of pulpits and of course, the large scale that acknowledges his deep faith.

In addition, he had harvested the wood on his own land, which creates a bond with the natural world and he’d incorporated the love of his family into each turn while also teaching at the university for thirty years, which grounds his work in a love of humanity, as well.

The show is called Benediction, as it relays a sort of swan song, a “spiritual ending” to quote the text, to his quiet strength and its innovative tenacity.

I was able to realign my source energy in this room after the other exhibitions provoked me so negatively.  I highly recommend a visit to see Benediction at the Everson.  It is on view through August 31, 2025.

This Sunday there will be a City Market event on the grounds complete with food trucks, music and artisans peddling their wares.  The museum will be open with a pay-what-you-will sliding scale, that is,  if you are not yet a member (members are free).

Come one, Come All

My holiday merchandise is ready for tomorrow night’s Sip & Shop event at AFL STUDIO, 301 E. Seneca Street, Manlius, NY 13104.  I think I will be sharing my gallery space with the Apricot Lane proprietor.

There will be a Botox medical professional and a “permanent” jewelry business there as well as light food and drinks.

I will be there at 3:45 PM, if you would like to come and shop early.  Hours for this party – 5:00 – 7:30 PM.

I created notecards that double as holiday ornaments and other special things including one hundred twelve hand painted postcard paintings of angels.  Prices are as marked on the package.  My jewelry collection is all marked as well.  The 36″ x 36″ oil and collage paintings are only $800 and the 18″ x 24″ oil and collage paintings are only $200.  The encaustic hearts with the stands are $75.

I will try to get my Square card reader operational to take charges.  You can also pay cash or use PayPal or Venmo.  Will I have cash to make change?  IDK.

Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and it will be a fun and festive evening!

See you there!
