Coming Soon

All six dozen fan paintings are now complete.  I spent this morning placing the last three dozen into frames.  Next up, adding the wires to the backs and finally, giving the paintings titles.  Then I will be ready to share them.

I love the evolution of this series.  It began with one dozen in 2019.  I created them for a group show at Kasai Ramen, a restaurant in Armory Square in downtown Syracuse, New York.  Last summer I decided to make two dozen more, which lead me to the idea that I wanted to make sixty of them.

I couldn’t decide among three different fan imagery.  I ended up using all three and now I have seventy-two paintings.  Currently, they are on the floor of my living room with some on the dining room table.

I think it’s time to manifest a venue.

On Target

The chalkboards have shipped and when they arrive these 6″ x 8″ beauties will be completed. I also made an extra heart painting. It isn’t finished yet either.

These are two sets of a dozen paintings. Two different stencil applications. All are encaustic and mixed-media. My goal is to exhibit them along with my 36″ x 36″ Target series from 1997 and the Talisman series from 2008, as well as the two dozen little hearts that I finished last week.

I will need a large venue with both wall and table top spaces.

Locked Into It

Today was about working on the rest of the paintings in the fan series. Three dozen are completed and framed and these are the other three dozen.

The way I work – I layer the hardboards with wax then trace the fan stencils to them. I created the stencils. I was only going to make sixty paintings but I really loved all three of these designs equally.

I’d already added origami papers to some of them. Today I painted first passes of color on all of them. Tomorrow I will re-carve the designs, clean them up and start giving each painting individual attention.

They are encaustic – a combination of oil paint and beeswax. Eventually, I will add mixed-media items to some of them as needed. I love the process of creation. I was so focused today. Locked in. <3

Love Everlasting

There’s a children’s book called Elemenopeo by Harriet Ziefert that I absolutely love. In it, a cat cannot go outside to play because his little cat door is closed for repairs, so he does the next best thing – he decides to paint. He gets out his supplies, puts on his smock and begins to paint his dreams.

I always say – I am that cat, blue smock and all. And on this past Wednesday and Thursday I was in full Elemenopeo mode because the DOT tore up my road, repaved it and repainted the lines during what was supposed to be a giant rain storm.

I was trapped inside. Not really, that is truly overdramatic. Just an excuse albeit the right set of circumstances to light the fire of painting my dreams too. I worked non-stop for two full days to complete them. I mean, I’d already started them with preliminary wax placed on the hardboards and chalkboard paint done as well, so it takes more than two days (it takes a lifetime – everyone knows that, which is why completing them is sooooo satisfying).

I dream of love. The dream of unconditional love. Hearts dominate my art imagery and this time it was two more dozen of these 4″ x 4″ encaustic paintings mounted on 6″ x 6″ chalkboard and placed individually on these darling little Arts & Crafts style stands.

Now I have four dozen completed and ready to sell minus the two I have already sold. I am in love (with them). <3

Caz Part 3

It’s always fun to drop in to visit the Cazenovia Artisans gallery. I was there on Monday.

Linda Bigness has a new exhibit at Cazenovia Artisans. They are floral encaustics infused with gold and silver leaf.

Cazenovia Artisans is an artist co-op.

Join them Friday, July 12,2024 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM for an artists reception for Bob Ripley (watercolors) and Dave Eichorn (woodworking). Their show is called Human Nature.

This Happened (In Progress Artwork)

Yesterday I purchased more supplies and today, on the last day of my winter break, I started the last three dozen fan paintings.

Here is the link to the frames I bought for these paintings. You can also purchase them straight from the manufacturer.

Go Big & Go Home

Today was the prep for five dozen new paintings. I added wax to the boards then etched in the designs for the last three dozen 8″ x 8″ fan paintings, and I created the chalkboard bases for the 4″ x 4″ heart paintings. Oh, and I started them. Encaustic is incredibly intoxicating.

I prefer to work in series and it’s always a dozen in a series no matter the size of the paintings. I’m currently working on smaller art pieces due to the size and space of my art studio.

I’ve been making lists of places to contact for art exhibitions and basically trying to get a jump start on living my authentic life.

I’m retiring from teaching in June.

I’m reading Barbra Streisand’s autobiography. She likes to say, “Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to assist you.”

My Name Is Barbra

What say you universe? You know what I want.
