Calling All Angels #2

I have been busy painting angels.  These little beauties are 4″ x 6″ postcards – metallic acrylic paint.  So far I have completed seventy-five of them.  Here are the ones with flower centers.

They will be available for sale at AFL Studio, 301 E. Seneca St., Manlius, New York 13104.  Proprietor Amanda LoSecco will host a holiday shopping experience on Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:30 PM.  Otherwise the salon is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

The Santy Abstracts

Penny Santy had a pop up show at The Atrium, a downtown Syracuse venue that is currently sponsored by CNY Arts.  They have several more events planned until the end of the year (2024).  Next year the building will be renovated into an apartment complex.

This is the first time Penny has exhibited all of her abstract paintings together – works that were three years in the making.  She is influenced by Diebenkorn among other Abstract Expressionists, as well as music.

She sold many paintings during this weekend pop up.  If you want more information or wish to purchase a painting, find her at www.pennysanty.com.

Beary Barry

The trees around the trail at Barry Park are ideal for hiding rocks!  Technically this hiking trail is adjacent to the park on Meadowbrook Drive in Syracuse, New York.  It is called the Onondaga County Meadowbrook Detention Basin.

And Bear rocks are the perfect fit for this place.  Have a Beary/Barry Christmas!  Yeah, I know it is early for that, but I have fond memories of skating on this pond in the 1970s at Christmas time.

Thank you, to anyone and everyone who found these and any of the other rocks I have hidden on the trails and in the parks.  It is fun for me too!  I appreciate you and I am happy that you are enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, and taking the time to exercise, (and of course, to adopt an art rock)!

Baltimore Woods Nature Center

Baltimore Woods Nature Center is a heavenly park of hiking trails located at 4007 Bishop Hill Road, Marcellus, New York 13108.

We’ve been having fifty degree weather – sunshine and blue skies – the perfect weather to hike these trails.  This is an excellent workout.  The woods encompass a series of drumlins with paths going up, down, and all around in a circle maze with bridges and stairs, and creeks and lots of trees including chestnut trees!!!  So beautiful.  If you’ve never been there, make a plan to experience this asap.

I left a dozen angel rocks around the site to enhance the blissful feeling of this peaceful serenity.  The joy of nature is everything.

Thank you, Patri, for sharing this adventure with me.  I appreciate you!!! <3

Coming Soon

All six dozen fan paintings are now complete.  I spent this morning placing the last three dozen into frames.  Next up, adding the wires to the backs and finally, giving the paintings titles.  Then I will be ready to share them.

I love the evolution of this series.  It began with one dozen in 2019.  I created them for a group show at Kasai Ramen, a restaurant in Armory Square in downtown Syracuse, New York.  Last summer I decided to make two dozen more, which lead me to the idea that I wanted to make sixty of them.

I couldn’t decide among three different fan imagery.  I ended up using all three and now I have seventy-two paintings.  Currently, they are on the floor of my living room with some on the dining room table.

I think it’s time to manifest a venue.

The Dylan Drawings

Bob Dylan can draw.

Thirty-five years ago he began sketching in charcoal when not performing during a world tour – portraits, landscapes, interiors, buildings – then in 2007 he reworked them, having the drawings enlarged and printed onto heavier-weighted paper then using watercolor and gouche, creating vivid imagery akin to Matisse.

This collection of works, borrowed from a private collector, will be on. display through September 18, 2024 at the Fenimore Art Museum.

It’s an impressive and cohesive collection. You can find it in the lower level gallery.

The gift shoppe has Bob Dylan merchandise – books, mugs, socks, dolls. The only “thing” missing is Bob Dylan himself. I know he performed a concert recently in Syracuse and I asked the employees if he’d stopped in and they both said no – but wouldn’t that have been so cool?

Because there is a Banksy mini-show at the museum too and I was thinking, could I be standing next to him and not know it? I mean, no one was walking around in a hoodie hiding his face on this glorious sunny summer day, but then, again…so cool…if only….

I hope this blog post persuades you to take a day trip to Cooperstown, New York. It is a beautiful place.

Fenimore Art Museum is open from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM every day. There is a fee unless you are a member of the museum (or have a reciprocal membership as I do to the Everson – make sure you bring that membership card).

The Women

Yulia Levkovich facilitated a class at the local community college – the focus? Portraits. Specifically women painting portraits of other women, Utica residents who have inspired them in some way – teachers, doctors, lawyers, mothers….

The result is this exhibition, currently on view through April 6, 2024 at Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts, 401-403 Canal Place, Little Falls, New York.

There are two galleries at this location. The other is filled with consigned objects – paintings, ceramics, sculptures, accessories and other trinkets all by regional artists.

Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts is open Thursdays-Saturdays. Call (315) 823-0808 or email director@mohawkvalleyarts.org for more information including any inquiries regarding upcoming art shows.

This Happened (In Progress Artwork)

Yesterday I purchased more supplies and today, on the last day of my winter break, I started the last three dozen fan paintings.

Here is the link to the frames I bought for these paintings. You can also purchase them straight from the manufacturer.
